We can use this for a start, to track card pages and images. Just a list of links so missing ones appear red, but it doesn't account for patched cards or images that need updating. It can be replaced with something more usable later on.
Added the Dead Reckoning cards to the list. I took screenshots of them all + the 2 voidbound cards, I'll upload the card images later after running them through GIMP. Feel free to make the card pages in the meantime :)
First I wanted to thank you for those quick fixes to the pages I made, especially that Card Hover template should come in handy :)
I have a few questions about the wiki...
Minor concern here... it seems that on mobile the template inserts the full size image in the text (in the mobile preview anyway, I don't have a smart phone or tablet to confirm its real-world effect). Is there a way to turn it into a normal link on mobile? I think the mobile skin strips out styling, but if not maybe something like a media query could fix it (I don't know much about CSS, I haven't used it myself beyond some basics).
Card Images & Pages
Does the ultimate goal of this wiki include uploading images and making pages for every card, basically making a full database? Or are they only used as needed as examples for other articles? I don't want to step on any toes by mass uploading images if the plan is to point users to another database site instead (like the one linked under the Community dropdown).
On a similar note, if the goal is to upload images for each card, is there a plan in place for categorizing them? I see most of the current ones are currently uncategorized. I don't want to mess around with it if you prefer them that way.
I read the old forums discussion and see the draft with the newer infobox formatting... any plans to roll it out? I could tinker with it in a separate sandbox if you have some issues that need fixing.
Sorry for the massive post, I just wanted to check these things before mucking about too much. I've been active on another gaming wiki since last June, so I'm not exactly a newbie with this stuff, but every wiki has their own way of doing things. Great job on the wiki so far!
In the long term, yes that would be a goal. Updating them with artists credit, history changes and such would be great, though its a lot of work, and I've primarily just been adding them as they happened.
Nothing planned, additionally we need to put credit in the description part for each card image page, but those are long term goals.
Not currently, haven't messed around with it too much.
Overall I'm focused on just adding content to the wikia, I'm the only one regularly updating it, and my pace is admittedly very slow.
Don't worry about the pace! I've been the primary editor at the other wiki I mentioned, so I totally understand. Helping out here is as much for a change of pace as its about a game I enjoy.
It sounds like its open to just start plugging away at whatever. I should catch on to corrections you make to hopefully start matching this wiki's style, but if theres anything particularly glaring just shoot me a message. Let me know if there's anything you would rather not be worked on.
By 'credit in the description' of image pages, what are you referring to: licensing/free use notices, artist/DWD credits, file sources, etc?
Let me know if I should focused on anything particular. Working on the other wiki I found I really enjoy the background stuff.. organizing, templates, etc. (I even started learning Lua to build databases there :P) Thanks for the Templates link, I had seen it a few days ago browsing the site and forgotten about it.
Great! I may get into cleaning up categories a bit, starting with non-content stuff like templates and images. I'll come up with a draft for some DWD copyright/fair use template as well, I may as well add it while I'm on the image pages anyway. Even if the template itself gets updated the template call can be in place.
Btw, I noticed you have the default root category 'Browse' nested under a 'Site' category. Any particular guidelines for how these should be used?
I thought I might drop by your page and say hello. I just started playing Eternal with the 1.28 patch. Coming from Hearthstone and their wiki, I felt stuff on the card sets and the campaigns were lacking, so I have started working a little on that.
haven't heard from you in a while, but IIRC we both were editing here and on the Mtg Wikia. Atm there is some stuff going on, I'd like to bring to your attenion: please, read this discuss post. I'd be happy if you could share your thoughts. Thanks a bunch and have a good one!
are you planning on adding content for the new set? How about card pages? btw: saw there are some of the card pages from previous sets missing. Where did you get the card images from? Is there a database like Gatherer for MtG?
I just started playing Eternal and thought I would check out the wiki. I enjoy doing this kind of stuff in my spare time, tinkering and trying to make cool stuff work. I did a lot of the work on my previous card game's wiki (Solforge) so if you see any features that you like, let me know and I can try to implement them here. One that I really like is being able to mouse over a keyword to see a description of it. Otherwise I'll just stick to updating card pages and adding other content.
I'm also getting so hyped over the game (in addiiton to ESL) that might as well use the energy on the wikia page. I have couple ideas and suggestions brewing in my mind but I'll check through the pages first.
If you want to do stuff with minimal knowledge I guess there's still a ton of "Notes" and "Strategy" stuff on all those pages that are empty, and I remember the LSV mentioning in his streams a bunch of minutia(though I didn't get a lot of it).
I'll be on the chat I mentioned early tomorrow(a little more than 12 hours from now) practically through the whole day and I'll explain how to use the source editor/classic editor if you don't know how if you join me in the ESL chat I linked above.
I got gist of the basics but there are couple areas I didn't find how to modify. For example, that navigation bar with "Cards", "Mechanics" and "Community" on the upper edge of the page.
I was thinking of making pages like "Basic rules" and category pages for different card types. One thing with the navigation bar was to have similar system as Hearthstone wikia has where the cards could be grouped by different types or lands.
Adding on the "Strategy" of different cards could be a bit early at this point (although there was quite a bit of information how some of them work together on the stream) but I think we could add some information under the "Notes" on what the special effects on the cards do; while you can always hop to "Skills" page, it would be more convenient to have a brief description on the card page as well.
I also got to #ESL channel (although will probably be idle most of the time as I'm using Irssi) so we can talk there too.
